I went to Mable's Just For You Cafe in Portrero Hill in San Francisco yesterday and ordered the Oatmeal Pancakes, and fell in love. I'm determined to learn to make these things. The cakes were large enough to cover an outspread hand, just barely crisp on the outside, with a center that was fully cooked but still somehow almost molten, so melty and delicious was the texture.
If I can't make them, I guess I'll just be forced
to commute to SF from Palo Alto every weekend this year.... Quick update from sender, folks -- I went back to Mabel's and asked about the pancakes, and they're from a mix, available at Martha's Scratch Baking

A couple of years ago I bought a bag of Chocolate Killer Cake and some time later actually baked the cake. From the time I had mixed the batter, you could tell this was a good recipe, because it smelled so good as it baked.
